What are dental crowns and bridges?
Dental crowns and bridges are two popular restorations used at Kellerman Dental.
- Dental crowns – Dental crowns, often referred to as dental caps, are restorations made of porcelain bonded over a tooth’s exposed crown. Dental crowns are used in a variety of ways. They can be placed over an abutment of a dental implant to replace a single tooth or protect a tooth that has experienced extensive damage, such as those affected by trauma, root canal therapy, or large areas of tooth decay. These restorations are created to match the patient’s existing tooth color for seamless integration once bonded in place.
- Dental bridges – Dental bridges are a type of tooth replacement option that provides patients with the opportunity to replace one or more teeth in the dental arch. Dental bridges use a false tooth called a pontic, which is fused with dental crowns on each side. These crowns are bonded onto the adjacent teeth, which act as an anchor to hold the new pontic replacement tooth. Dental bridges are more permanent than partial dentures and will often last several years with proper care and attention.
